It all begins with the idea of a comfy single reading chaise and a great cup of tea. It ends with a personalized, just-for-you, favourite place to sit your home.
This soft chair-chaise is a perfect place to kick back with a glass of wine or cup of tea to read a book, watch TV or catch some conversation. With arms that don’t claim much real estate in smaller spaces, its relaxed profile works well in almost any living space, even a tight little corner with a side table. For a traditional, classic, or transitional style in keeping with the tailoring of the furniture style. The one pictured here is slipcovered, which is a good solution to a clean but worn old pattern you want to update. It pays to investigate whether slipcovering your furniture is more economical than outright reupholstery, but if the structure is sound and you just want a slipcover casual look, it is the way to go.
The soft, solid neutral base fabric in a light caramel linen fabric is terrific on its own, but can be personalized in so many ways: with coordinated toss cushions or a throw in one or two patterns/colours taken from a related colour palette, or partially upholstered in a patterned fabric.
The two fabric selections shown here are a bit too formal in finish, more appropriate for a silk or silk blend upholstery base, but the mix illustrates the idea behind a colour coordination for not only the chair chaise, but the space it sits in. For the casual linen chaise base, we want to match up similar fabrics for toss pillows, bolsters and throws.
To personalize, the caramel linen base is accented with seat and back cushions upholstered in a Brunschwig & Fils subtle cream pattern fabric and coordinated bolster and warming throw.
Keeping the caramel linen for the entire chaise, a cool colour scheme can be created by adding blue and cream themed print pillows that work with the chaise’s based upholstery. Changing out sets of pillows, bolsters and throws by season extends their lives as well as provides a change in temperature for a space.
Consider pillow piping in the related fabric or a solid colour fringe for a finishing detail.
As fall and winter approach, warm things up by switching out the blues for a red and green botanical theme, adding a deep rust red or olive green colour throw for added coziness.
